What health problems/symptoms/ailments brought you to Atlas Chiropractic & Wellness Center?
I was having severe migraine headaches on the right side of my head into my face and down into my neck. The pain also extended into my right shoulder. On a scale from one to ten, I was at a ten in the beginning. I was running out of options in that I could not find a Doctor to resolve the problem or target the cause and not just treat the symptoms.
How long had you been suffering, and how severe was the problem(s)?
It was a little more than a year when the problems started. As time went by, the pain increased. I was taking every drug imaginable sometimes not even knowing that the drugs themselves were causing other problems. I wanted to be pain free, drug free, and get back to living again but it just became worse. I was at the end of my rope with pain. I did not know what other doctor there was that could determine why I was having these migraines and not just satisfying the aches with medicine. I was becoming depressed without knowing it. My own son mentioned to me that I was not the same mom he used to know.
To what extent was your health and normal life interrupted due to the problem(s)? What activities were you unable to do that you enjoyed?
I used to play basketball and football with my 13-year-old son, Lamar. I used to read before going to bed, walked for miles and exercise after work but all of it came to a halt. If I moved too swiftly when playing ball my head would feel like a football itself. Reading became substituted for electrodes stuck to my neck and shoulder to make the muscles pulsate before going to sleep, just so I can sleep. I had to stop doing all activities that were the least bit strenuous. I did continue to weight lift just to keep the muscles loosened but that too came with continuous pain. Working everyday in front of a terminal with light seeming to be stronger than the sun was pain staking. I could hardly concentrate on work and I was becoming very irritable around everyone.
How has your health and daily life changed since beginning chiropractic care?
My friend and neighbor Karen Westbrook that happens to be a nurse told me about Atlas Chiropractic & Wellness. If she was claiming that she has received treatment better than anyone else she had been to then what the heck, I thought I would give it a try. In the few visits I had, I knew I finally found the right treatment for me. On my last visit, I was feeling the best I felt in a year. I thought I would never be able to join my son in a physical game of basketball but I did it! My attitude at work has changed dramatically and I can finally read again. I was feeling so good that I signed up for a college course, knowing I can study without pain. Although, my symptoms seemed to disappear, I have noticed without continued maintenance care, tension in my neck and a few minor headaches have sprung back up. However, because I know how to resolve the problem I will simply call for my maintenance appointment and continue to receive the care that I wish I knew about a year ago.
